- Context
- One of 2 dates from Feature 1, a large, roughly circular, shallow pit excavated ca. 20 cm into the clay loam underlying the cobble overburden. Meas. 1.05 x 1.27 m, with densely packed cobbles that also mounded over the pit. No oxidation rind present. A total 367 rocks, weighing 143 kg was recoveed from the basin; many were blackened, about half were fire cracked. Very little charcoal left. Sample is charred material. This date is accepted as the most reliable of the two since it was on charcoal and the other was on organic sediment.
