Comments
KaFh-2, Baie Déception: Three groups of structures were examined, with only a few test pits, during geomorphological field work. According to B. Matthews, the results indicate that a relatively large Thule community lived near the south end of Deception Bay at the time of first European colonization, compared to only a few scattered families seen in the area by R. Bell and A.P. Low at the turn of the 20th century. Since Thule settlements were usually built near extreme high tide level, and as this site is at present 3.2 km inland and the surface of Lac Duquet is 2.4-3.1 m above high tide level, land emergence of at least 61-91 cm per 100 years must have occurred in the last 300-400 years. Such a rate is compatible with that suggested by Matthews (1966).
