Comments
GaEl-3, Lac Caniapiscau, comments by D. Denton: The context of both dates is excellent. The importance of the oldest date of the pair is that it is the oldest date from a site both in the Caniapiscau area and in the James Bay as a whole. Unfortunately, the cultural material associated with the date is singularly unrevealing. More recent excavation in the area of the LG-4 reservoir confirms both the importance of quartz during the early phase of occupation of the central interior of the Québec-Labrador peninsula and the use of heating in pits as a means of initial processing of the quartz.
