Comments
GaEl-1, Lac Caniapiscau, comments by D. Denton: QU-1412 appears to be associated with hearth 2, but we cannot rule out the possibility that this lens is a remnant of an older humus layer. QU-1408 is probably associated with the use of hearth 1, but we cannot completely eliminate the possibility that it is a remnant of an older humus layer. While noting the potential problems relating to the context of the dates from this site, we feel that the date should nevertheless be accepted. That structure 2 is significantly older than structure 1 is in line with distributional, stratigraphic and pedological evidence for the site. The relatively old date associated with structure 2 is in line with dates on similar assemblages from other sites in the region (GcEg-4, GcEl-3).
