- JcRw-14, Hughes: The site was discovered when O.L. Hughes dug a geological test pit there in 1966. Archaeological excavation in 1967 extended over an area of 22 sq m, and 17 artifacts, as well as a hearth, were recovered from an erosional disconformity between the varved clay of glacial lake Liard and overlying silts then interpreted as proglacial. Disseminated charcoal from the erosional contact yielded two very dissimilar dates, I-3188 and GaK-2337, collected 1.5 m apart. The recent result for GaK-2337 must refer to a forest fire that is evident at the surface, with the dated charcoal representing burned roots.
