Comments
AaHq-8, Bruner-Colasanti: This 1 ha site contains materials of both the Younge and the Springwells phases of the Western Basin tradition. Cooper and Savage (1994: 15) report that the large faunal sample came from 77 pit features, much of it flotated and fragmentary. Recovery, with the possible exception of fish remains, is judged to be representative of exploitation at this site. Clustering of thermally altered bone suggests an activity area for processing game animals. Analysis indicates a late autumn to early spring occupation. Nine artifacts include beads, an antler awl or punch, and a projectile point. Fauna: Aves 74, Anserini 2, Chen caerulescens 1, Bucephala albeola 2, Falconiformes 1, Accipiter gentilis 3, Bonasa umbellus 11, Meleagris gallopavo 56, Strix varia 11, Gallus gallus 143 (intrusive); Amphibia: Anura 15; Pisces 149, Acipenser fulvescens 1, Catostomidae 1, Perciformes 2, Percidae 2, Perca flavescens 8, Serranidae 3, Stizostedion vitreum 1, Aplodinotus grunniens 1; Class uncertain 12649; Mollusca: Pelecypoda 21, Elliptio dilatatus 1, Elliptio complanata 1, Lampsilis radiata 1; Gastropoda 31, Triodopsis sp 1, Triodopsis tridentata 2, Triodopsis albolabris 2, Mesomphix sp 3, Anguispira alternata 5; cultigen: Zea mays, Phaseolus vulgaris; Flora: Fagus sp, Betula sp, Fraxinus sp, Castanea sp, Ulmus sp, Carya sp, Ostrya sp, Acer sp, Quercus sp, Juglans nigra
