Comments
BbHj-16, Rocky Ridge: Three aceramic components are associated with layers of blackened sand separated from one another by yellow aeolian sand. The two oldest components, levels II and III, represent short-term use of the site, while the youngest component, level I, contains evidence of more intensive occupation. Only level III is directly dated, but Ramsden (1975) presents a variety of reasons to believe that level I is still within the late Archaic period. All of the site's faunal remains are listed in this record. Fauna: Aves 183, Gavia immer 10-1, Podiceps grisegena 2-1, Podilymbus podiceps 3-2, Ardea herodias 1-1, Nycticorax nycticorax 1-1, Botaurus lentiginosus 1-1, Branta canadensis 1-1, Anas platyrhynchos or Anas rubripes 1-1, Aythya marila 1-1, Bucephala albeola 1-1, Clangula hyemalis 1-1, Somateria spectabilis 1-1, Lophodytes cucullatus 3-1, Haliaeetus leucocephalus 8-2, Grus canadensis 1-1, Larus argentatus 9-1, Ectopistes migratorius 6-2, Strix varia 1-1, Corvus corax 2-1; Reptilia 120, Chelydra serpentina 13; Amphibia: Anura 7; Pisces 1871, Lepisosteus osseus 1, Salvelinus namaycush 7, Catostomidae 2, Ictalurus punctatus 9, Micropterus sp 1, Stizostedion vitreum 5, Aplodinotus grunniens 19; Mollusca: Planorbis exacuous 2, Lymnea palustris 348, Triodopsis albolabris 18, Triodopsis tridentata 4, Anguispira alternata 16, Vallonia pulchella 1, unidentified 3
