Comments
GcBk-13, Black Island 2: The dating of the site rests upon six radiocarbon determinations, three of which are near 4200 BP with two older and one younger than this age. Before receipt of these dates, the site was thought to predate the Sandy Cove and Black Island Cove sites whose lowest sea level elevation lay at 11.1 m compared with 14 m for Black Island. The anomalous elevation of Black Island 2 is explained by the absence of a lower beach at this location. The 14 m terrace drops rapidly to an 8 m terrace which had not emerged by 4200 BP.
