Comments
EiBf-11, Overfall Brook 1: Pintal (1989: Tab. 2) lists this as a late prehistoric site. Three test pits yielded a green chert side-notched point fragment, two red quartzite flakes, 70 flakes of various types of chert, and four nodules. The cultural layer extends from 20-30 cm depth, and charcoal is abundant. This site is one of the few directly associated with a large cobble beach pit feature situated about 18 m west of the cultural distribution, against a cliff face. The point fragment is reminiscent of the fragmented biface bases assigned to the late Intermediate Indian tradition, but the radiocarbon dates would place it within the Point Revenge complex of the Late Prehistoric Indian tradition. The date could also reflect a very late Dorset occupation which would be unusual for southern Labrador. Stopp concludes that the site represents a Point Revenge occupation with a possible Palaeoeskimo presence.
