Comments
EfPq-5: The site occupies a terrace remnant on the highest portion of the valley side. Vertical movement of artifacts is thought to be attributable to roots and frost-heaving. In the westernmost units, a black silt organic zone, 10-12 cm thick, overlies a light brown clay zone with a sharp but irregular boundary between. Cultural material was recovered from both zones to a depth of about 28 cm, with most of it in the lower zone at 15-25 cm depth. In the easternmost units, the same two zones are present to a depth of 34 cm and are underlain by greyish-green clay 10 cm thick above a mottled grey-green-orange, sandy gleysol. Cultural material was concentrated at 10-33 cm depth with none in the clay or sandy zones. Ten projectile points were recovered: one late prehistoric side-notched form in the upper 10 cm, well above a buried stone circle (Feature 3); one similar to this but with attributes like the other eight; and the other eight points that include four side-notched, three corner-notched, and one indeterminate dart point. Most of these are like Besant but could also be compared to the Mummy Cave series. Quigg concludes that the collection cannot be classified.
